Different Specifications

TPC Wire & Cable Corporation was in need of a few different specifications. Firstly, they needed a ramp that allowed trailers with low clearance to drive into their building. Secondly, being in the industrial wire and cable industry, they also needed a ramp that could handle the large weight capacities of the trucks plus the cable or wire. Lastly, they also needed a ramp long enough for large trailers to get into their building, without hitting the ceiling. 

After researching more about customers needs, Lots-a-ramps’s engineering team decided that the best solution was to design a unique 2 piece ramp design. This 2 piece option answered the company’s unique specifications, while also making shipping and unloading a painless task. When joined together, the dock-to-ground ramp is 50 feet long. Therefore, we had to get creative as to how it would be best to manufacture and transport to the customer. 

Two-Piece Design Was The Best Solution

Copperloy’s team manufactured the ramp in two pieces. The first ramp is 30 feet long, by 10 feet wide. Allowing for the trailer space to navigate, while also providing a 30,000-pound capacity. Being made of steel, with serrated grating, for better traction and durability. The 20-foot extension to this ramp locks into place for easy installation. Saving on manual time to bolt the two pieces together yet offering peace of mind in Lots-a-ramps’s safety procedures and factory certification. Most would call it a hassle-free experience. They won’t cut corners even with a custom design, they still manufactured it for ease of use and safety.

Lots-a-Ramps proudly accomplished a custom 40,000 Lb. capacity steel pallet for Frontier-Kemper. Taking on this specific and challenging task proving to be an accomplishable task for them. Upon completion of this custom job, delivering the client a very unique and functional steel material handling pallet structure.

Frontier-Kemper, a contractor who’s involved with the joint venture project undertaken by New York City’s MTA to complete the Eastside Access Queens Bored Tunnels. The ultimate goal of the project is to bring the Long Island Rail Road to the new Eastside Station; then incorporating into Manhattan’s Grand Central Terminal.

Four separate 19-foot 6-inch diameter tunnels needing constructing. Together, the four tunnels have a combined length of 10,500 feet. Frontier-Kemper inquired on needing a heavy duty piece of equipment that could manage huge loads of equipment and supplies they employ on a daily basis. Needing equipment offering efficiency, safety, effectiveness, and durability. Lots-a-ramps, fully knowing this would detail a massive undertaking, not only accepted the challenge, they accomplished the challenge.

Producing End Results

The end results producing a 40,000-pound capacity steel material handling pallet structure. Not only was this capacity above and beyond a standard piece of equipment; providing a unique system to hold down the gear being moved, utilizing ratchet straps and fork pockets. In this way, the system is similar to that of a flatbed truck. Being tailor-made for Frontier-Kemper and employed in action for them on this project.

A572-50 High Strength Steel Yard Ramps

A572-50 steel is tailor-made for our portable or mobile yard ramps, and our dock-to-ground ramps, where extra strength and reduced end product weight are paramount. These ramps being constructed with solid steel side curbs to help prevent runoff including serrated grating for high traction and durability. Main Features of A572-50 Plate Steel

A572-50 steel is a complex blend of materials that work together to form the ultimate in strength and functionality. Some of its features when used in our ramps include:

 

  • Blend of columbium and vanadium.
  • Trace elements of manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon.
  • Increased corrosion resistance with the addition of copper, nickel, silicon, and chromium.
  • Superior resilience and durability from a manufacturing process that requires 25% – 30% more power than standard carbon steel plates.

 

Normal hot rolled steel does not guarantee structural properties. When employing the steel to A36 it guarantees the steel strength to 36k min yield. At Lots A Ramps they upgrade to A572-50, which has a 50k pound minimum yield thanks to its more refined alloys, which give it more strength and weld-ability. Making this is the best by far material to construct a yard ramp.
